Van 28 augustus tot 7 september vindt de 81ste editie van het Filmfestival van Venetië plaats. Dit jaar strijden 21 films in de competitie. Buiten de competitie zal, zoals eerder aangekondigd, Tim Burtons Beetlejuice Beetlejuice het festival openen, met een sterrencast waaronder Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega en Willem Dafoe.
