Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch heeft op het 82ste Filmfestival van Venetië de Gouden Leeuw gewonnen met Father Mother Sister Brother, een gelaagd drieluik over familierelaties. Naast Jarmusch vielen ook regisseurs als Benny Safdie en Kaouther Ben Hania in de prijzen, terwijl Xin Zhilei en Toni Servillo de Volpi Cups voor beste acteerprestaties ontvingen. Het festival bracht opnieuw een rijke mix van internationale cinema, van intieme debuten tot grootse auteursfilms.
